Chris Beasley down at SitePoint reports on Amazon’s plans to go into contextual advertising, possibly with a new ad network similar to YPN and AdSense. It’s not going to be sponsored links from Amazon but rather a completely separate network of contextual ads.

Amazon had some problems recently after forecasting first-quarter revenue which failed Wall Street’s expectations. This is an interesting development and Amazon definitely has the framework for such a network. Personally, I just never considered Amazon to be a webmaster-oriented business model, unlike that of Google and Yahoo who work closely with website owners. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens. []
