First let me say, this is a GREAT post. It comes a great time for me, as I’m currently in the early stages of strategic planning for a faceted navigation eCommerce site.
I was leaning towards creating static category pages for high search volume facets, and roboting out any “dynamic” facets.
This post makes me think otherwise…
If you’re not roboting these pages out, how do you keep the spiders from consuming all that bandwith traveling in and out of those facets?
How about roboting out any facets after the first selection?
From the static page:
/boots/red/
Users (and spiders) can select/crawl facets such as size or style:
/boots/red/(firstfacet)
Users can continue to refine, but additional facets are roboted out.
Does that make sense?
Feel free to email me directly, would love to discuss.
