Google has launched today what many see as a precursor for “Google Office”, called Google Applications for Your Domain. Google Apps is a set of hosted services (Gmail, Google Talk, Google Calendar and Google Page Creator) which you can offer to your visitors/clients as a private-label solution.

Google describes the service “as a beta product without cost to domain administrators or end users.” Organizations that sign up for the service during the beta period will never be charged, even after the service is out of beta.

Is Google setting up pieces for a checkmate? We have heard rumors about Google Office, Google OS and even Google PC. No matter what Google’s grand strategy is, Microsoft has already enough to worry about after the release of Google Spreadsheets and Writely.
