Low Tech Still Thrives

Not your usual tech-related press release, but this one caught my eye. How many of us who now ply our trade online either as graphic designers, web designers, advertising moguls or seekers of branding opportunities got our start in the most low-tech way possible? Yes, I’m talking about that icon of American marketing – Play-Doh.

Tomorrow, September 16th, Play-Doh celebrates its 50th birthday with plenty of activities and a special birthday pack of the squishy stuff. Online advertisers could learn a lot from the progression of the compound from one shop to the worldwide phenomenon it still is today, despite its decidedly non-electronic bent. The media may be different, but branding techniques are adaptable.

The bigger question perhaps is, how many of us STILL have Play-Doh sitting on our desks … Have a Happy Friday and be kind to your Play-Doh – after all it won’t be long before it’s eligible for Social Security. :-)
