Marketing in the Virtual World

It is still difficult for me to comprehend that people are making money in the virtual world like Second Life. And yet, marketers manage to find a lot of opportunities in this environment. Apparently, Second Life has already produced at least one real millionaire.

So how do you get into the game? First, you will need to realize this phenomenon is not only for your children to enjoy. It might be worth your time to familiarize yourself with Second Life. In May, 2006, BusinessWeek ran a cover story titled “My Virtual Life” which I found to be a great introduction to the world of Second Life.

Second, check out this Second Life eBook (PDF) by Spunlogic. Basically, it’s a Second Life Marketing 101 course (via Clickz Blog).

Finally, visit Second Life’s Business & Education section. It has a lot of information on the opportunities available for marketers and advertisers.
