I had a completely different experience than the guy you referred to and I think its because I reached out to those people prior to meeting them. One way was to comment on their blogs, something that isn’t done often enough. I recommend making relevant comment on the people’s blog you admire and take it from there.
Although it is interesting to see an alternative perspective on SEM conferences, the worst thing you can do is take a negative stand in your blogging.
Instead of approaching the issue constructively and try to understand what went wrong, SEO Loser is bashing people on his blog, whining about his experience.
But I do have to agree with Boris here. With so much interaction between people through blogs and forums, it feels like we’ve known each other for a very long time.
Andrey, I’m sorry you felt that way–I didn’t mean for the post to come across as ‘bashing.’ It wasn’t supposed to be interpreted as a complaint, either, but instead as a (hopefully) humorous reflection on my own unrealistic expectations and blunders.
Anyway, cool post Boris.. I totally agree with your sentiments on the SEO community.
