Is Quality Score Recession-Proof?

Back in 2006, when Google announced the “Quality Score” initiative, Google’s advertising revenue growth seemed unstoppable. Penalizing a few rogue advertisers (‘rogue’ being mainly defined as affiliates, made for AdSense sites, or incentivized marketers) might lose Google a few dollars in the short term, but those dollars would quickly be replaced by the hordes of new advertisers rushing to give their marketing budgets to the Google juggernaut. Search Marketing and Surviving a Recession from SMX Advanced Seattle

I think Jeff Rohrs from ExactTarget said it best when he ended the session by saying, “We as marketers should be used to a recession since we face one every fourth quarter.” So US recession or not, this session was great fodder to use when defending or renegotiating search engine marketing and even general marketing budgets.
