Thanks for the good SEO post on videos!
Video is often neglected in the SEO world I think it can be useful to a lot of website. Not only on a seo point of view as you point out but clearly for the visitor in the first place.
Good content including videos = visibility, authority, etc.
I agree, video is often neglected in the SEO world. Like web design, it has its own learning curve, and can be very daunting for search marketers to take on. But the data I’ve seen shows that online video can have a much higher engagement level with customers for almost any kind of enterprise. And ultimately, it needs to help the visitor with what they want to accomplish, not just show up in a search result.
Take a look at this

Thanks, Kevin. According to one of their press releases, I assume they are in the San Francisco Bay area? It would be nice if they came to the SMX West Conference in Santa Clara Feb 26-28, which is where I’ll be doing some coverage. While the event is short on video-related topics, the Bay area is a great hub for video solutions firms, such as Divinity Metrics, TubeMogul, and Linden Labs (creators of Second Life).
I’m sure Jeremy is aware of other players, like Nexidia, in the multimedia search. Nexidia’s Phonetic Search Engine (PSE) technology enables audio-video search. It creates index of verbal content from audio and/or video clips. This index is then available to users via search.
So it appears that future Video Search Engine Optimization (VSEO) may end up focusing on optimizing content which can be indexed with the help of speech recognition technologies. Using these techniques we should be able to search huge amount of spoken words (both in audio and video) which is currently largely invisible due to limitations of tagging. Yet it is far from clear, in terms of optimizing content, how VSEO will be different from SEO of web pages.
Of course we will have to wait for some sort of visual recognition technologies before we can optimize search of visual content.
