Yahoo has made an offer to Mark Zuckerberg, the 22-year-old owner of Facebook, to acquire his company. At this point the reports on the amount offered differ. CNET claims Yahoo has offered about $900 million for Facebook while BBC News says the offer was for $1 billion.

For Yahoo, this move solves a lot of problems. For one, Facebook will be able to replace the unsuccessful Yahoo 360 social service. Also, as CNET notes, Yahoo is trying to cater more to the young people, a population that no longer sees Yahoo as “cool”.

I bet right about now MySpace wishes it could go back in time and ask for more than $580 million :) []
